Changing Lives One Dog At A Time

Nassau Humane Society is dedicated to the humane treatment of all animals; to alleviate their suffering and neglect, to support the human-animal bond, and to foster an environment in which people respect all living creatures. We will pursue workable solutions to the most urgent animal welfare needs of our community, which are animal overpopulation and homeless pets. Our solutions will emphasize the mutual benefit of bringing pets and people together. We will provide rescue and control as a lifeline to animals in need and for the necessary protection of our community. We will encourage and provide for pet adoption, animal-assisted therapy, pet care education, outreach spay and neuter programs and other welfare efforts, all in support of our comprehensive community service obligation.

If you would like to help us further our mission, consider volunteering your time, becoming a foster, or making a monetary donation.

The Humane Society of Camden County, Inc. helps not only lost and stray animals but also provides services to everyone in the community. These include reuniting lost animals with their families, providing shelter and placement opportunities for stray and abandoned animals, as well as providing education aimed at reducing the number of unwanted animals and promoting a quality life for all animals.

Shelters implementing daily playgroups report more positive outcomes. Happy animals are generally less stressed which results in less disease and extreme behavior. Subsequently, shelter dogs (and the people eager to attend to them) are safer in the process, so more dogs are able to find their way into loving homes. None of our behavior programs discriminate due to breed or category. Whether it is embracing co-housing or playgroups for dogs, there is no doubt that offering a more natural environment helps shelters to better assess behavior, maintain health, and arrange better adoption matches.

Since 1953, we have served the neglected and abandoned animals of the Northshore region and today we stand as one of the largest animal welfare organizations in the state of Louisiana.

We envision the day when all citizens, their property and their neighborhoods will be safe from the dangers and nuisances of irresponsible pet ownership. We envision the day when animals will not suffer because of human abuse, neglect or ignorance; and that every pet born will be assured of a good home and care all its natural life. In keeping with our vision, our mission is to balance the health, safety and welfare needs of people and animals in St. Tammany Parish
